Background History

The Tanzania Federation of Organizations of Persons with Disability (SHIVYAWATA) is a national umbrella body founded in 1992 to unite and amplify the voices of persons with disabilities. It brings together 12 member organizations, including groups for individuals with physical, sensory, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities.

SHIVYAWATA champions the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Tanzania, driving change in education, health, employment, gender equality, social protection, and policy to create a more inclusive society.
