About National Disability Week 2026

National Disability Week (D-Week) 2026 is Tanzania’s national platform for bringing together persons with disabilities, their representative organisations, Government, local authorities, development partners, academia, private-sector actors, media and other stakeholders to advance disability inclusion, participation and accountability.

The Very First Disability Week In Tanzania

For many years, 3 December was observed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, providing an important opportunity to recognise the rights, achievements and contributions of persons with disabilities and to raise awareness of the barriers they continue to face.

Today, Tanzania is taking this commitment further. The commemoration is being expanded from a single day into a National Disability Week (D-Week) — creating more time and space for persons with disabilities, their representative organisations, Government, communities, development partners, academia, the private sector and other stakeholders to come together, exchange knowledge, influence decisions and turn commitments into action.

The programme will connect community engagement, policy dialogue, research, accessibility, sport, culture, enterprise, media and national commitments, creating a pathway from local experiences to national action.

D-WEEK 2026

More Than a Week. A National Platform for Action.

D-Week 2026 brings together persons with disabilities, Government, OPDs, communities and partners to turn participation, dialogue and evidence into meaningful action.
